Measles, Mumps and Rubella
These three illnesses are caused by viruses spread through coughing and sneezing. Symptoms also include rashes, fever and a swollen jaw (mumps).
Measles
Measles is going around in the United States and can cause serious illness, especially in young children. Measles is very contagious. You can get measles just by being in a room where a person with measles has coughed or sneezed. This can happen even up to two hours after that person has left.
Measles is a systemic infection, meaning it affects many areas all over the body. Measles spreads person-to-person through large respiratory droplets and airborne aerosolized droplets. If one person has measles, up to 90% of people close to them will also become infected if not immune from prior infection or vaccination.
MMR Vaccine
There is one vaccine for Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR).
